Today we have a fascinating video about schooling in Victorian times from historian Ruth Goodman.
During Queen Victoria's reign literacy in Britain went from 50% to nearly 100% an achievement that had large impacts on society as a whole.

Statement of Reconciliation

We are enthusiasts and reenactors interested in the "Victorian" history of Alberta and Western Canada, that is between 1880 and 1914*.

Here you will find articles of interest, photos of reenactor events, costuming tips, and discussions of interest to fans of the early days of the settlement of Alberta and Western Canada.

We will also have items of interest from the wider "Victorian" world because our history takes place in the global context of the British Empire and the Dominion of Canada.

*Queen Victoria died in 1901 so the period between 1901 and 1914 is technically Edwardian but most people during that time were still "Victorians"
